Google's search engine has been the first and main gateway to the Internet for nearly two decades, but in November 2022 it began facing its first potential competitor, the interactive chatbot (ChatGPT), which revolutionized artificial intelligence and became the talk of the town. It's time for the technical community.
The company (OpenAI) – supported by Microsoft – dominates through the robot (ChatGPT) in the generative artificial intelligence market, if in just two and a half months of its launch, it collected more than 100 million monthly active users, to become faster. The ever-increasing web application and this drives the great success of all technology companies have accelerated the offering of updates and new products to keep up with this new technology revolution that we are currently witnessing.

Google Bard the new ChatGPT competitor |
Google was one of the first to respond to the uproar, rushing last week to announce the release of the first beta version of Bard, the new ChatGPT bot competitor.
So what is Google Bard, how do you use it, and what are its features? Here's everything you need to know about this new competitor in the AI market:
What is google Bard?
(Google Cool) Google Cold; It is an interactive chatbot based on Google AI that can respond to various inquiries and requests in a conversational manner. It's supposed to work similarly to the ChatGPT bot, with the biggest difference being that the Google bot will pull your information from the web.
Bard will not be just a chatbot, but it is expected that Google will integrate its capabilities into its search engine, in order to provide a concise answer to what the user is searching for, in addition to the usual traditional search results on Google. Although it is not widely used yet.
When did Google announce Bard?
Google announced Bard on February 6 in a statement from CEO Sundar Pichai posted on the Google Blog. If (Pichai) confirms that it will not be just a chatbot, its capabilities will be integrated into the Google engine.
Pichai touched on the variety of information Bard can provide, from simplifying complex scientific concepts to learning the latest sports news or teaching a user new skills. Not only will Bard serve the average user, but Google will provide an API for developers to take advantage of its features and integrate them into their apps.
What is lambda?
- Google Bard relies in its work on (LaMDA) the large language model developed by Google, which it revealed two years ago, and it is similar to (GPT-3) the language model used in the ChatGPT bot.
- The LaMDA model differs from other language models in that it is trained on dialogue, not text, so we will find that (GPT-3) focuses on creating text, while LaMDA focuses on creating dialogue.
- What makes LaMDA such an amazing feat is that it can create conversation in a free-flowing way that isn't constrained by standards for task-based responses. The template uses concepts such as user intent, reinforcement learning, and recommendations so that the conversation can move between unrelated topics seamlessly.
- Google developed the LaMDA model based on Transformer, an open-source neural network architecture for natural language understanding that Google announced in 2017, and it is among the newest and most powerful classes of “machine learning” invented to date. It is the basis of many generative AI applications we see today, one of which is the GPT-3 model used in ChatGPT.
- In an August 2021 paper, Stanford researchers dubbed the Structure(s) Base Models Transformers, flexible, reusable AI models that can be applied to almost any industrial field or task, because they feel they are quantum-driving. A leap in artificial intelligence, which in recent years has expanded our imagination of what is possible.
- Google says about (Transformer): “This framework produces a model that can be trained to read many words, for example, a sentence or a paragraph, and also pay attention to how these words relate to each other, and then wait for the words that you think will come later.”
- Thus, the LaMDA model understands conversations because it has been trained to understand the context of the conversation, and this allows it to keep up with the flow of the conversation and gives the impression that it is listening and responding accurately to what is being said.
- The initial release of Bard will use a prototype lightweight version of LaMDA because it consumes less computing power, which helps Google serve more users to get feedback and suggestions faster.
- In addition to the LaMDA model, Bard pulls information from the web to provide answers. “This mechanism will provide users with new, high-quality answers,” Pichai said.
How to use Google Bard?
Google Bard hasn't been released to the public yet, it's currently being tested with a small group of trusted testers, and it will open to the public in the coming weeks.
In this regard, (Pichai) said: “We will collect feedback from internal tests and feedback from users who test Bard to develop the service and improve responses, to ensure that it is ready for the public while adhering to Google’s artificial intelligence accountability standards. “
The most important features and uses of Google Bard
It is not yet possible for interactive chatbots to conduct full-fledged conversations like humans, but they do so by generating a wide variety of digital text that can be reused in almost any context, including what has been trained to understand the text, including what is trained to Understand the context of the dialogue and search for the Bard bot from Google to:
- Collect information from user responses and the web to deliver new, high-quality responses.
- Use an initial lightweight version of LaMDA for initial testing, then it will evolve in future versions, which means faster responses and more accurate responses.
- Collect feedback to improve the AI system in the future.
Google also aims to revolutionize the process of collecting information and how we use search engines by developing its own artificial intelligence technologies, so it is expected that many use cases for the Google Bard bot will appear after the official launch, and the most expected ones are:
- Get proper answers to queries with advanced AI algorithms where you can ask them for anything you want.
- It can help you find information more easily when you use the Google search engine, whether you're looking for a weather report or the latest sports scores.
- Simplifies complex information and explains new discoveries.
- Seamlessly automate complex tasks.
- Facilitate the completion of daily tasks, especially for activities such as assisting with time management and scheduling.
- Facilitate conversations with the user on all topics.
Google has a long history of using AI to improve search and is now using the latest AI technology to develop entirely new ways to interact with information, whether through language, images, audio, or video.
